about

This is a live recording by the Melt Quartet.

Jordan Rodger is a musician and artist operating under the pseudonym Melt. Tinct was performed for the first time on November 3rd, 2018 by the quartet featuring Advait Thakur (clarinet), Angus McGrath (drums) and John Binos (piano).

An improvised response to graphic scores, composed by Rodger, the abstract notation served as a catalyst for sonic material. Interested in the connection between audio and visual representation, Rodger’s scores extend the standard ‘free’ approach to improvisation and provided stimulus for the collective to interact with one another, the audience and the gallery space.

A selection of the scores have been included in digital form, originally drawn in ink and crayon.
